The Saber RC Car Buying Guide
Gas Or Nitro? There Is A Difference.
One note before we get started: A lot of people mistake and interchange the terms Gas & Nitro when describing RC cars that are not electric powered. A gas powered RC car runs off of a 2-cycle fuel mixture composed of gas and 2-cycle oil, generally a 50:1 ratio. Nitro RC cars run off of a premixed nitromethane fuel available at most hobby stores. Check the manual that corresponds to your RC model. (Nitro & Gas Powered RC Cars - More Info @ Wikipedia)
RC Cars & Trucks Introduction
RC cars are remote controlled cars that are powered by either electric currents, or a form of gas called Nitro. These cars and trucks are modeled after their full sized models and can be purchased in many different scales; from 1/5 to 1/12 the size of its counterpart. Nitro powered RC cars are usually larger than electric RC cars, and can even come with a two-stroke motor in them. Nitro cars are therefore more expensive than an electric car.
There is quite a controversy between electric and nitro RC cars. This decision is left up to each individual operator. Some say that electric cars are much cleaner, and others say that nitro gives them the feeling of power. Some people say that neighbors become very annoyed at hearing nitro cars run all day. Yet, some people prefer to use gasoline-powered cars.

Speed Isn't Everything
There is talk about how fast all the RC cars are when they are running in a straight line, but the question is how effective are they when it comes to making a turn, such as on an off road course. Is your RC really good at maneuvering these turns and going through an obstacle course?
BatteriesElectric remote controlled cars are powered by batteries (battery pack) and an electric motor. They are easy to maintain, and run much quieter than nitro cars. The electric RC cars are recommended for beginner RC car racers.
NitroThere are off road electric remote controlled cars and there are on road RC cars. The on road cars can reach speeds up to 40 mph. However, the off road cars can only reach speeds up to 30 mph. The downfall to electric RC cars is that they need to be recharged approximately every 20 to 45 minutes, and if you do not have an extra battery pack, you will be waiting for 30 minutes to have a fully charged battery pack.
Remote controlled Nitro cars are more for advanced RC car users that know about how to maintain a car. They also come in the on and off road versions, and can reach speeds up to 60 mph. It takes a little bit of extra knowledge to run a nitro powered RC car; the fuel is still very flammable, but not as combustible as regular gasoline. The nitro powered cars can run continually for about 15 minutes but once it is refueled it can continue forever, however, always keep a check on the car, as you would not want to overheat the motor; you should give the car a little time to cool down. Also, be cautious when fueling the car, because of the fumes both from the refueling process but even after the car starts running you can smell the exhaust fumes.
